As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE PREPARING TO DEPART FROM THE GALENA, AK AIRPORT THE PILOT WAS ADVISED BY THE COMPANY AGENT IN GALENA THAT THE WEATHER IN KOYUKUK, AK. WAS "FOGGY". THE AIRMAN ELECTED TO ATTEMPT THE FLIGHT IN AN EFFORT TO GO THE EXTRA MILE IN HELPING THE FINANCILLY STRESSED COMPANY RECOVER FROM RECENT FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES. THE COMPANY HAD FAILED TO MAKE PAYROLL FOR THE THREE WEEKS PRECEDING THE ACCIDENT AND THE PILOT WAS AWARE THAT THIS FLIGHT COULD GENERATE AN ADDITIONAL $900.00. UPON ARRIVING IN THE VICINITY OF THE KOYUKUK, AK. AIRPORT THE AIRMAN ENCOUNTERED AND CONTINUED INTO EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITY WHILE OPERATING VERY NEAR THE FROZEN SURFACE OF THE YUKON RIVER IN AN ATTEMPT TO REACH THE KOYUKUK, AK. AIRPORT. HE ENTERED AN AREA OF VISIBILITY OF APPROXIMATELY 600 FEET AND ATTEMPTED TO REVERSE COURSE AND RETURN TO THE POINT OF DEPARTURE. WHEN HE BANKED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE LEFT TO INITIATE THE TURN THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE FROZEN RIVER SURFACE. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FAIRBANKS FSDO ACCIDENT LOG #5.
