(-23) AT APPROXIMATELY 1400 HOURS CST, A KIT FOX AIRCRAFT DEPARTED SKY HARBOR AIRPORT IN SELMA, ALABAMA. HE ATTEMPTED TO RETURN BACK TO THE AIRPORT WHEN THE AIRCRAFT'S ENGINE QUIT AND THE AIRCRAFT STARTED LOSING ALTITUDE. HE ATTEMPTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A NEARBY PASTURE; THE RIGHT WING STRUCK THE TOP OF A TREE, AND THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A VERTICAL DIRECTION. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL04LA066](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL04LA066), Jan 13, 2004: Current Kitfox 313 (N313MC), Selma, AL, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate installation, and his failure to secure the main fuel line, which resulted in fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
