## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N107US A US AIR FLIGHT #1471 EN ROUTE FROM PHL TO MHT EXPERIENCED SMOKE INDICATION IN CARGO COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE SUSPENSION AGENT WAS DISCHARGED BY THE FLIGHT CREW AND THE AIRCRAFT DIVERTED INTO ALB. THE FLIGHT CREW EXECUTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON RUNWAY 28 WITHOUT INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DID AN INVESTIGATION ON LANDING BUT THERE WAS NO SMOKE EVIDENT IN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT. UPON INVESTIGATION BY AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE APU HAD LEAKED OIL INTO THE BLEED AIR DUCTS CAUSING THE AIRCRAFTS SMOKE DETECTOR TO INDICATE A SMOKE CONDITION IN THE CARGO AREA. THE AIRCRAFT WAS THEN RELEASED BY ^PRIVACY DA^ THE ON DUTY MAINTENANCE CONTROLLER FOR US AIR TO CONDUCT A FERRY FLIGHT (FLIHGT CREW ONLY) TO PHL FOR REPAIRS. ITEM CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
