## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS CRUISING NEAR BARTLETT LAKE, AZ. (APPROX. 20 MILES N.E. OF PHX) WHEN HE EXPERIENCED THE ENGINE HAVING SYMPTOMS OF "FUEL STARVATION." THE PILOT MANAGED TO KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING USING THE WOBBLE PUMP/PRIMER, BUT AT IDLE SPEED AND SURGING. THE PILOT MADE A FORCED/EMERGENCY LANDING ONTO THE EAST BANK (SAND) OF BARTLETT LAKE. THE R/H LANDING GEAR WAS BENT AFT AND THE AFT TUBULAR STRUT OF THE R/H LANDING GEAR DISPLACED THE LWR, R/H FUSELAGE TUBE UPWARD APPROX. ONE (1) INCH, AT THE ATTACHING POINT OF THE AFT R/H LANDING GEAR STRUT. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OR INJURY TO THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX04LA109](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX04LA109), Jan 17, 2004: Piper PA 22-160 (N8718D), Carefree, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate fuel management by his failure to switch the fuel tank selector position, which resulted in fuel starvation, a loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
