## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON FEBRUARY 14, 2004 N27JS, A CESSNA 177RG OPERATED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LANDED GEAR UP AT GREENWOOD MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS OUT ON A LOCAL PLEASURE FLIGHT. HE SAID THAT ON HIS APPROACH TO GREENWOOD HE SMELLED SMOKE (LIKE ELECTRICAL SMOKE). HE SAID HE TURNED OFF THE MASTER SWITCH TO INHIBIT ANY ELECTRICAL FIRE. I ASKED ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IF THEN MANUALLY PUMPED THE GEAR DOWN. HE SAID THAT HE DID NOT BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THE GEAR WAS ALREADY DOWN. THE FAA INSPECTOR WHO WAS AT THE SCENE WITHIN AN HOUR AFTER THE EVENT SAID HE DID NOT SMELL ANY EVIDENCE OF AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. AN INVESTIGATION AFTER THE AIRCRAFT WAS MOVED TO A HANGER FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF ELECTRICAL SHORTS OR BURNED WIRES. A GEAR RETRACTION TEST FOUND THAT THE GEAR WORKED WELL IN ALL MODES AND EVEN IN THE MANUAL MODE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
