## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT, WITH A PASSENGER IN RIGHT SEAT WAS PRACTICING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS AT THE JOPLIN, MO AIRPORT, (JLN) ON RUNWAY 36. ON THE EIGHTH TOUCH AND GO, AS THE PILOT WAS INCREASING POWER, THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE AIRCRAFT EXITED THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT. THE PILOT AND THE PASSENGER STATED THAT THE LANDING GEAR WAS DOWN WITH THREE GREEN GEAR DOWN INDICATOR LIGHTS AND THAT THE GEAR WARNING HORN HAD NOT SOUNDED. THE TOWER OPERATOR ON DUTY STATED THAT HE SAW THE LANDING GEAR EXTENDED. ON 02/09/2004 THE AIRCRAFT WAS PLACED ON JACKS AND THE LANDING GEAR WAS CYCLED UP AND DOWN SEVERAL TIMES WITH MALFUNCTIONS. THE INDICATING SYSTEMS ALSO FUNCTIONED NORMAL. THE TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR AERO COMMANDER STATED THAT THE ONL WAY THAT HE KNEW OF FOR THE LANDING GEAR TO COLLAPSE WAS FOR A MIS-RIGGING OF THE LANDING GEAR ACTUATING CYLINDERS TO OCCUR. A SEARCH OF THE MALFUNCTION OR DEFECT DATABASE REVEALED THE ONLY INSTANCE OF A LANDING GEAR MALFUNCTION ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL WAS A SEVERE SHIMMY CAUSED BY DAMAGE TO THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR. THE AIRCRAFT IN THIS INCIDENT SUFFERED MINOR SHEET METAL DAMAGE TO THE BELLY AND THE PROPELLERS. INCIDENT ^PRIVACY DATA ^ IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
