## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ENTERED THE TRAFFIC PATTERN AT THE AIRPORT AND WAS CONDUCTING PRE-LANDING CHECKS WHEN HE WAS DISTRACTED BY A RADIO CALL OF ANOTHER AIRCRAFT IN THE PATTERN. AFTER LOCATING THE OTHER AIRCRAFT THE PILOT WAS IN A POSITION TO TURN BASE AND FORGOT TO COMPLETE THE PRE-LANDING CHECK. THE LANDING GEAR WAS STILL IN THE "UP" POSITION. WHILE TURNING BASE TO FINAL THE PILOT WAS AGAIN DISTRACTED BY AN AIRCRAFT TAKING THE ACTIVE RUNWAY FOR TAKE-OFF. HE HAD TO CONDUCT "S" TURNS ON FINAL TO SLOW DOWN FOR THE OTHER AIRCRAFT TO TAKE-OFF. AFTER THE OTHER AIRCRAFT CLEARED THE RUNWAY THE PILOT COMPLETED HIS LANDING NOT KNOWING THAT HE HAD NEVER LOWERED THE LANDING GEAR. THIS EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH A GEAR WARNING SYSTEM. AFTER SKIDDING TO A STOP THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT. DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE COMPOSITE PROP AND THE FLAP TRAILING EDGES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
