## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT AND PASSENGERS STATED THE AIRCRAFT TAKE OFF WAS NORMAL, HOWEVER, DURING CLIMB OUT THE AIRCRAFT HAD A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AT APPROXIMATELY 500-600 FEET. PILOT TURNED AIRCRAFT TO LAND ON A GRASS STRIP, PICKED UP A 10-15 MPH TAIL WIND, INCREASING THE DESCENT RATE AND RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. ONE PASSENGER WAS EJECTED FROM THE AIRCRAFT CAUSING AN INJURY TO HER BACK. SHE STATED HER SEAT BELT WAS ROUTED THROUGH THE LEG STRAP OF HER CONTAINER SYSTEM, BUT HAS NO MEMORY OF THE ACCIDENT. PILOT STATED HE DID NOT SUMP THE FUEL TANKS BEFORE THE FLIGHT, BECAUSE HE HAD SUMPED THEM THE NIGHT BEFORE. ON-SITE INVESTIGATION DISCOVERED WATER IN THE FUEL STRAINER, AND CARBURETOR BOWL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW04LA081](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW04LA081), Feb 22, 2004: Cessna 182A (N30408), Claremore, OK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to fuel contamination (water). A contributing factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
