## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING VFR CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT THE PILOT MADE A CALL TO ABQ CENTER TO REQUEST FLIGHT FOLLOWING DUE TO A LOW FUEL STATE. THE PILOT HAD ORIGINALLY WANTED TO LAND AT GILA BEND AZ BUT THEN TRIED TO LAND AT THE GOODYEAR AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT RAN OUT OF FUEL 1 MILE SHORT OF THE GOODYEAR AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS INSPECTED AND NO FUEL WAS FOUND ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT. NO EVIDENCE OF AN IN-FLIGHT LEAK WAS NOTED. THE TIME FROM INITIAL CALL UP AND THE ACCIDENT WAS ONLY ABOUT 30 MINUTES. THE PILOT REPORTED TO ATC THAT HE HAD ABOUT 45 MINUTES OF FUEL LEFT BUT COULD NOT BE SURE. THE CONTROLLER THEN HAD INFORMED THE PILOT THAT HE WAS NOT SURE IF GILA BEND HAD FUEL BUT GOODYEAR DID. THE PILOT THEN TOLD THE CONTROLLER THAT HE WANTED TO LAND AT GILA BEND AND THAT HE WOULD HAVE SOMEONE BRING FUEL BY CAR. THE CONTROLLER THEN STATED THAT BUCKEYE WAS UP AHEAD BUT HE ALSO DIDN'T KNOW IF THEY HAD SERVICES. THE CONTROLLER STATED THAT HE DID CALL GOODYEAR AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAD FUEL. THIS WAS 10 MINUTES AFTER THE FIRST CALL UP. THE PILOT DECIDED TO PROCEED TO GOODYEAR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
