## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRMAN STATED HE INITIATED THE FLIGHT FROM THE FLABOB AIRPORT (RIR) AND CONTINUED TO THE CORONA AIRPORT (AJO). AS THE AIRMAN APPROACHED THE CORONA AIRPORT HE DECIDED TO MAKE AN APPROACH AND LANDING TO RUNWAY SEVEN BECAUSE OF GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS. THE AIRMAN NOTICED VERY ERRATIC WIND CHANGES DURING HIS FINAL APPROACH AND LANDING ON RUNWAY SEVEN. DURING THE FINAL APPROACH SEGMENT THE AIRMAN DECIDED TO MAKE A THREE POINT LANDING BECAUSE OF CURRENT CONDITIONS. UPON TOUCHDOWN THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF RUNWAY SEVEN. AT THIS POINT, THE AIRMAN CHOSE TO CORRECT WITH RIGHT RUDDER. WHEN THE AIRMAN MADE THIS CORRECTION THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY TO THE RIGHT. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY THE MAIN LANDING GEAR DROPPED IN A HOLE CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TAIL TO ROTATE VERTICALLY AND CONSEQUENTLY CAUSING THE PROPELLER TO STRIKE THE GROUND AND SELF DESTRUCT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
