## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS LANDING ON RUNWAY 09 AT SAVANNAH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (SAV), WHEN A GUST OF WING CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO DRIFT OFF THE RUNWAY. THE WINDS REPORTED AT THE TIME BY SAV ATCT WERE 130 TO 140 DEGREES AT 10 KNOTS GUSTING TO 15 KNOTS. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE GOT THE AIRCRAFT BACK UNDER CONTROL ONCE HE WAS OFF THE RUNWAY, BUT DID NOT TRY AND RETURN TO THE RUNWAY. INSTEAD THE PILOT CHOSE TO CONTINUE IN THE GRASS TO THE TAXIWAY AHEAD, BUT DID NOT SEE A DITCH BETWEEN HIM AND THE TAXIWAY. HE ALSO DID NOT NOTICE THE RUNWAY SIGNAGE (LARGE ORANGE BALL) FOR THE ARRESTING GEAR ALONG SIDE THE RUNWAY WHICH WAS STRUCK BY THE LEFT WING TIP. THE AIRCRAFT'S NOSE WHEEL WITH FAIRING WAS SHEARED AT THE 4 BOLT ATTACHING POINT WHERE IT IS FASTENED TO THE STRUT ASSEMBLY WHEN IT WENT INTO THE DITCH. WHEN THE NOSE WHEEL WITH FIRING SHEARED, THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. PILOT FAILED TO APPLY PROPER CROSS WIND CONTROL INPUTS TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT UNDER CONTROL AND ON THE RUNWAY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
