## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT DEPARTED KENNEWICK AIRPORT AND APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES NORTH OF PASCO HAD ENGINE RPM DROP FROM CRUISE OF 2400 TO 1800 AND START RUNNING ROUGH. PILOT PULLED ON CARBURETOR HEAT AND APPARENTLY ADDED THROTTLE, AND CHECKED FUEL SYSTEM INCLUDING PRIMER. ENGINE THEN RESPONDED BY GOING TO RED LINE AT 2700 RPM. PILOT DID NOT RECOGNIZE PROBLEM AS CARBURETOR ICE. ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS WERE CORRECT FOR POSSIBLE ICE. THE PILOT ELECTED TO MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING IN A WHEAT FIELD WITH SHORT STUBBLE. THE LANDING WAS SUCCESSFUL. GROUND CHECKS SHOWED THE AIRCRAFT TO BE OKAY. PILOT ELECTED TO TAKE OFF AGAIN AND RAN OUT OF STUBBLE FIELD AND PROCEEDED INTO SOFT DIRT. THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND.
