## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED THAT HE TOOK OFF FROM WEBUMPKS (09A) FOR A PLEASURE FLIGHT. HE FLEW TO HIS RESIDENCE AT ONE THOUSAND FEET AND WHEN HE TURNED TO RETURN TO WETUMPKA A GUST OF WIND HIT HIS CRAFT AND HE WENT INTO A FLAT SPIN. HE TRIED TO RECOVER THE CRAFT BUT COULD NOT AND AT THREE HUNDRED (300) FEET TO FOUR HUNDRED (400) FEET HE DEPLOYED HIS BCS (BALLISTIC CHUTE SYSTEM). HIS SPEED WAS GREATLY REDUCED BEFORE HE CRASHED INTO THE TREES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL04CA083](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL04CA083), Mar 28, 2004: Dantzer Lawrence L Rans S-12 (N910MB), Lowndesboro, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed while manuevering which resulted in an inadvertent stall/spin. A factor was trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
