## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PREVIOUSLY N74545 EXPERIENCED MECHANICAL FAILURE AND THE GEAR COLLAPSED WHILE TAXIING CLEAR OF THE RUNWAY ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2003. WAITING FOR REPAIRS TO HIS AIRCRAFT, THE PILOT HAD ONLY FLOWN APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR WITHIN THE 6 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE LACK OF RECENT FLIGHT TIME, A BUSY TRAFFIC PATTERN, AND A REQUEST BY ATC FOR A SHORT APPROACH CONTRIBUTED TO HIS BECOMING DISTRACTED AND FORGETTING TO LOWER THE LANDING GEAR. HE ACCEPTED THE SHORT APPROACH; BY THE TIME HE REALIZED HE WAS IN TROUBLE HE WAS UNABLE TO GO AROUND. PILOT STATED HE BECAME DISTRACTED AND FORGOT TO LOWER THE LANDING GEAR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
