## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 30, 2004, AT 0925 PDT, PIPER, PA-28-140, N6740J, LANDED WITH A FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, JAMES FREDERICK SPOWART AND STUDENT PILOT, RALPH GARY NELSON. THE PILOTS STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT LANDED WITH A SIDE LOAD AND THE RIGHT GEAR AXLE FAILED. THE TIRE AND A PORTION OF THE AXLE DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON THE RIGHT STRUT, LEFT WHEEL AND NOSE WHEEL. THERE WAS VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT FLAP AND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PASSENGER STEP.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
