## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT LANDED IN GRASS BETWEEN RUNWAY 30 AND TAXIWAY. AREA USED FOR LANDING IS NOT AN APPROVED LANDING AREA AND IS AN UNPREPARED SURFACE. GRASS WAS SOFT IN AREA OF TOUCHDOWN. GROUND SCARS AT SITE INDICATE 3 POINT LANDING. GEAR PENETRATED SURFACE APPROXIMATELY 4 TO 5 INCHES. TAIL OF AIRCRAFT REBOUNDED FROM SURFACE CONTACT AND PILOT STATED HE WAS UNABLE TO STOP IT FROM RISING. PROPELLER STRUCK SURFACE AND AIRCRAFT FLIPPED TAIL OVER NOSE COMING TO REST UPSIDE DOWN ON GRASS. DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIAL WITH OBVIOUS DEFORMATION OF WINGS, LEFT WING STRUT BROKEN, PROPELLER BENT BACK ALONG ENGINE COWLING, AND TOP 12 INCHES OF VERTICAL STABILIZER AND RUDDER BUCKLED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC04CA114](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC04CA114), Apr 30, 2004: Cessna 305 A (N2070E), Taunton, MA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilots inadequate pre-flight planning which resulted in a landing on soft terrain and subsequent nose over. A factor was the soft terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
