## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED ENGINE FAILURE APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES NORTH OF HAILEY IDAHO AIRPORT DURING APPROACH FOR LANDING. PILOT ELECTED TO LAND IN A FIELD BY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. AIRCRAFT LANDING ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT INCIDENT AND WITH NO DAMAGE OR INJURY TO PILOT OR AIRCRAFT. PILOT STATED THAT ENGINE HAD STARTED RUNNING ROUGH PRIOR TO QUITTING. HE WAS IN CONTACT WITH THE HAILEY AIRPORT CONTROL TOWER AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE CARBURETOR HEAT CONTROL CABLE CLAMP WAS LOOSE AT THE CONTROL ARM ATTACHMENT, AND THEREFORE, THE CARBURETOR HEAT CONTROL DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY ALLOWING CARBURETOR ICE TO DEVELOP RESULTING IN ENGINE FAILURE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
