## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DR. BUONO HAD A NORMAL TAKEOFF WITH GEAR RETRACTION AND THEN HE HIT A FLOCK OF BIRDS. HE INDICATED THAT GEAR RETRACTION SEEMED LONGER THAN USUAL. THEN ON LANDING DR. BUONO STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO GET THE LANDING GEAR DOWN ALL THE WAY. HE THEN RETRACTED THE GEAR AND TRIED TO EXTEND IT TWO MORE TIMES. THEN HE ATTEMPTED TO LOWER THE GEAR W/THE HAND PUMP. AGAIN, IT ONLY PARTIALLY EXTENDED. HE WAS ABLE TO FULLY RETRACT THE GEAR W/THE HAND PUMP. AT THAT POINT, HE LANDED GEAR UP ON RWY 21 AND SHUT DOWN THE REAR ENGINE TO PRECLUDE ANY POSSIBLE PROP DAMAGE. HE SLID APPROX. 600 FT DOWN THE RWY AND WAS ABLE TO PREVENT ANY WING TIP DAMAGE. HE SHUT OFF THE POWER, EXITED THE A/C AND CALLED FBO. DR. BUONO STATED THAT HE HIT A FLOCK OF BIRDS ON TAKEOFF. POST INCIDENT INVESTIGATION FOUND THE LANDING GEAR TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY ON 2 CYCLES (A BLACKBIRD FELL FROM THE GEAR WELL ON GEAR EXTENSION).

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
