## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N203H WAS TAKING OFF FROM A 1/2 MILE LONG PRIVATE GRASS STRIP. THE PILOT HAD BEEN OPERATING FROM A LONGER ASPHALT STRIP AND WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE RARELY USED UNIMPROVED GRASS STRIP THAT WAS HEAVILY OVERGROWN. AS THE AIRCRAFT APPROACHED THE END OF THE STRIP IT DID NOT HAVE FLYING SPEED BUT SPEED WAS SUFFICIENT TO PREVENT STOPPING BEFORE REACHING A SLIGHTLY ELEVATED ROADWAY WHICH WAS ORIENTED PERPENDICULAR TO THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT APPLIED CONTROL INPUT CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO BECOME AIRBORNE JUST LONG ENOUGH TO CLEAR THE ROADWAY AFTER WHICH IT SETTLED INTO THE FIELD ACROSS THE ROAD. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST UPRIGHT WITH DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING SPAR AND THE ENGINE WAS PARTIALLY SEPARATED FROM THE AIRFRAME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW04LA127](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW04LA127), May 8, 2004: WSK PZL Mielec M-18 (N203H), Brinkley, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilots failure to attain flying airspeed after takeoff. A factor was the overloading of agricultural chemicals that exceeded the airplane's maximum takeoff weight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
