## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 05-08-2004 AT APPROXIMATELY 1800 LOCAL TIME, MR. JEFF A. MILLER, PILOT CERTIFICATE NUMBER 95505821, WAS THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND OF N1754D, A CE-170-B. MR. MILLER STATED THAT HE WAS LOSING OIL PRESSURE AND POWER AND ADVISED NY APPROACH OF THE PROBLEM. HE WAS GETTING TRAFFIC ADVISORIES AT THE TIME AND ASKED DIRECTO TO HWV (BROOKHAVEN AIRPORT). THE ENGINE QUIT AND THE PIC MADE A FORCED LANDING INTO A FIELD 2 MILES NW OF THE AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED DUE TO ENGINE FIRE. AN INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT MR. MILLER DID NOT HAVE A CURRENT FLIGHT REVIEW.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC04LA120](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC04LA120), May 8, 2004: Cessna 170B (N1754D), Shirley, NY, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate pre-flight inspection, which resulted in his failure to remove the engine inlet covers and subsequent loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
