## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) MR. FRY WAS TAXIING HIS FALCONAR F-12 HOMEBUILT TO GET REACCUSTOMED TO THE CONVENTIONAL GEAR. HE MOVED BACK AND FORTH ON A TAXIWAY WHEN THE BRAKES FADED ON HIM. HE DECIDED TO TAKE TO THE AIR RATHER THAN RUN INTO TAXI LIGHTS AT THE END OF THE TAXIWAY, FLEW IN GROUND EFFECT FOR ABOUT 300 YARDS, AND CRASHED NOSE DOWN ON THE AIRPORT. HE STATES HE HAD NO INTENTION TO FLY. MR. FRY IS IN THE MIDDLE OF PREPARATIONS FOR BECOMING CURRENT, AND WAS ABOUT TO GO TAKE SOME TRAINING FROM A CFI WHEN THIS TAXI EVENT HAPPENED. I COUNSELED MR. FRY ON HIS APPARENT LACK OF PREPARATION FOR EMERGENCY PROCEDURES AND ON THE LOCATION WHICH HE HAD CHOSEN TO DO HIS TAXI FAMILIARIZATION. HE HAD NOT LOOKED THE SITE OVER AND DETERMINED WHERE HE COULD GO IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED TO HIM. I REMINDED HIM THAT IF HE IS GOING TO GET GOING FAST ENOUGH TO RAISE THE TAIL (WHICH HE WAS), THEN THE POSSIBILITY OF AN EVENT HAPPENING WAS HIGH IN THAT FLIGHT TRANSITION STAGE AND HE SHOULD HAVE BETTER PREPARED. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ^PRIVACY DATA OMIT^

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
