## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOTS REPORTED AFTER PERFORMING A STEEP TURN TO THE LEFT THEY HEARD A BANG AND THEN LOST CONTROL OF THE RUDDER. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY AT DVT. UPON INSPECTION FOUND THAT THE RUDDER CONTROL GEARS HAD SKIPPED A TOOTH CAUSING THE RUDDER TO BE OUT OF RIG. THE CAUSE OF THE GEAR DISENGAGE WAS DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY ELONGATION OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT OUTBOARD RUDDER TORQUE TUBE BEARING BLOCK HOLES. THIS CONDITION ALLOWED THE TORQUE TUBE TO SHIFT FORWARD WHEN EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS APPLIED TO THE RUDDER PEDALS. THE BULKHEADS THAT THE TORQUE TUBE BLOCKS ARE ATTACHED WERE REINFORCED TO PREVENT FURTHER ELONGATION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
