## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FLIGHT WAS ON INSTRUMENT FLIGHT PLAN ENROUTE FROM SLN TO DEN. AIRPLANE WAS FUELED IN SLN TO ALL TANKS FULL. THIS WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH FUEL FOR FLIGHT AND EXTRA IN CASE OF ANY WEATHER DEVIATIONS. ON ARRIVAL INTO DEN FUEL LIGHTS CAME ON ADVISING THAT FUEL WAS LOW IN WIND, LEADING EDGE, AND TIP TANKS. THERE WAS SOME FUEL LEFT IN FUSELAGE TANK BUT NOT ENOUGH TO GET TO DEN. IT APPEARS THAT THERE WAS AN UNDETECTABLE FUEL LEAK FROM THE ENGINE OR FUEL FEED SYSTEM. THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND LANDED AT THE CALHAN, COLORADO AIRPORT WHICH WAS A 4565' DIRT STRIP. THE PILOT COULD NOT STOP THE AIRCRAFT ON THE AVAILABLE RUNWAY AND RAN ACROSS A DIRT ROAD AND APPROXIMATELY THREE HUNDRED (300) FEET INTO A FIELD. THE MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE WINGS WERE DAMAGED BY THE LANDING GEAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: the failure of the fuel tank float which resulted in the draining of fuel out the vents, and a low fuel supply. Contributing factors include the insufficient runway length, the ditch, and the rough,…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
