## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE TOW PLANE AND GLIDER DEPARTED RUNWAY 17. AT APPROXIMATELY 150' AGL, THE GLIDER PILOT SUSPECTED PROBLEMS WITH THE TOW PLANE AND RELEASED THE TOW ROPE FROM THE GLIDER. THE GLIDER MADE A TURN TO THE LEFT AND THEN CIRCLED AND MADE A LANDING ONTO THE HARD SURFACE RUNWAY 35. THE TOW PLANE MADE A SLIGHT TURN TO THE RIGHT AND LOST ALTITUDE UNTIL IT HIT THE ROW OF TREES AT THE NORTH EDGE OF THE QUARRY. IT THEN DESCENDED INTO THE QUARRY AND HIT A CONVEYOR. A FEW MOMENTS LATER THE AIRCRAFT BURST INTO FLAMES, DESTROYING MOST OF THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC04FA137](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC04FA137), Jun 2, 2004: Cessna 182C (N8681T), Kutztown, PA, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The towplane pilot's failure to maintain a climb while towing a glider for undetermined reasons, which resulted in the early release of the glider and the tow plane's subsequent impact with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
