## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 12 JUNE 2004 AT 1315EDT, ALAN KUNTZ, PILOT OF CE-172-F, N8777U, ANNOUNCED OVER UNICOM THAT HE WAS DOWNWIND FOR TOUCH AND GO, RWY 23 AT MVL AIRPORT. AT APPROX 1655 A PILOT APPROACHING MNV SPOTTED N8777U APPROX. 400 YARDS FROM THE DEPARTURE END OF RWY 23. THE AIRCRAFT WAS INVERTED AND THE OCCUPANTS DECEASED. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND ON A HEADING OF 160, AT AN APPROX 45 DEGREE ANGLE WITH THE LEFT WING SLIGHTLY LOW, THEN FLIPPED OVER. EXAMINATION OF THE WRECKAGE BY FAA AND NTSB DID NOT REVEAL ANY MECHANICAL DEFECTS. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT IMPACT. THE PILOT APPARENTLY STALLED THE AIRCRAFT AS HE MADE HIS CROSSWIND TURN AND COULD NOT RECOVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL04FA130](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL04FA130), Jun 12, 2004: Cessna 172F (N8777U), Madisonville, TN, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed while maneuvering on a touch and go landing resulting in a stall and collision with the ground.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
