## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A LANDING IN A TUNDRA TIRE EQUIPPED AIRCRAFT ON ARCTIC TUNDRA NEXT TO A STREAM. HE HAD OFTEN USED THIS LANDING AREA TO ACCESS A FISHING STREAM BUT IT HAD BEEN SEVERAL DAYS SINCE HE LANDED THERE. ON ROLL OUT THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED A SOFT AREA OF TUNDRA, AND NOSED OVER. ALTHOUGH THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER, LEFT WING STRUT, VERTICAL STABILIZER, AND RUDDER THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC04LA065](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC04LA065), Jun 16, 2004: Piper PA-18 (N18ZF), McGrath, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of unsuitable terrain for landing, which resulted in the airplane nosing over during the landing roll. A factor contributing to the accident was the presence of soft tundra.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
