## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT ELECTED TO ACCOMPLISH AUTOROTATION LANDING IN A FIELD DUE TO LOW RPM AND WARNING LIGHT. AT TOUCHDOWN THE AIRCRAFT SLOWLY ROTATED TOWARDS THE NOSE AND THE MAIN ROTOR BLADE MADE GROUND CONTACT JUST TO THE LEFT AND FORWARD OF THE SHIP. THE AIRCRAFT SLOWLY ROLLED OVER ON ITS LEFT SIDE. THERE WERE NO INJURIED TO THE PILOT. AIRCRAFT DAMAGE INCLUDED A BROKEN WINDSHIELD, DENTED TAIL BOOM, BROKEN LEFT STABILIZER, AND DAMAGED ROTOR BLADES. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT AIRCRAFT LOST POWER DUE TO FUEL STARVATION. PILOT MISCALCULATED FUEL BURN IN THAT HE DIDN'T TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE FUEL BURN REQUIRED FOR A HOTTER THAN NORMAL DAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA04CA107](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA04CA107), Jun 16, 2004: Steward Rocky 162F (N717CS), Hood River, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's miscalculation of fuel consumption and his inadequate in-flight planning/decision, which resulted in fuel exhaustion and loss of engine power. A factor was the high vegetation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
