## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AN UNREGISTERED, NON-CERTIFIED, TWO PLACE, QUICK SILVER AIRCRAFT THAT WAS OPERATED BY AN UNCERTIFICATED PILOT CRASHED IN THE DESERT NEAR MOUNTAIN HOME, IDAHO. THE PILOT AND ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT, DID NOT SURVIVE THE CRASH. THERE WERE NO WITNESSES TO THE ACCIDENT. EVIDENCE GATHERED AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE SHOWED THAT THE PILOT HAD STOPPED AT A TRUCK STOP AT 0910 AND HAD PURCHASED FUEL FOR HIS AIRCRAFT. HE WAS SEEN FLYING IN THE AREA AT ABOUT 0950 BY WITNESSES ON THE GROUND. THE PILOT HAD PLANNED ON FLYING TO THE TOWN OF FAIRFIELD, IDAHO WHICH IS LOCATED ABOUT 50 MILES EAST OF THE CRASH SITE. THERE WAS NO CLEAR EVIDENCE OF AN IN-FLIGHT STRUCTURAL FAILURE. HOWEVER, THE FABRIC WAS VERY FRAGILE AND COULD BE TORN OR PUNCTURED WITH EASE. THE AERODYNAMICS OF THE AIRCRAFT'S WINGS HAD BEEN MODIFIED BY THE PILOT/OWNER. IT HAD A PLASTIC WINDSCREEN ATTACHED SO AS TO PROTECT THE PILOT FROM THE WIND. TWO GAS CANS WERE ATTACHED TO THE STRUCTURE NEAR THE LOCATION OF THE PILOT. A LARGE DUFFEL BAG STUFFED FULL OF CAMPING EQUIPMENT WAS TIED TO THE SECOND SEAT. AN FAA INSPECTOR ADMINISTERING A FLIGHT CHECK NEAR THE SCENE OF THIS ACCIDENT, REPORTED GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS AT THE TIME THIS ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
