## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON CRANE LAKE ON A WINDY AND GUSTY DAY, THE AIRMAN MISINTERPRETED THE WIND DIRECTION AND AT TOUCHDOWN THE AIRCRAFT WEATHERVANED INTO THE WIND. THIS CAUSED THE UPWIND WING (RIGHT WING) TO STRIKE THE SURFACE OF THE WATER AND CAUGHT THE RIGHT FLOAT WHICH FLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT OVER INTO THE WATER. PILOT AND AIRCRAFT RECORDS AREA IN THE PROCESS OF BEING OBTAINED. AN AMENDED FAA 8020-23 WILL BE COMPLETED AT THAT TIME.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
