## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ENGINE FAILURE SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF RESULTED IN OFF AIRPORT LANDING. AIRCRAFT STRUCK DITCH IN FIELD WHICH KNOCKED OUT LANDING GEAR. ENGINE SEPARATED FROM AIRFRAME. WING STRUCK DRAINAGE PIPER RUPTURING FUEL TANKS. AIRCRAFT CONSIDERED DESTROYED. INSPECTION OF ENGINE REVEALED LARGE AMOUNT OF METAL PARTICLES IN OIL LINES AND FILTER, INDICATIVE OF MAIN BEARING OR MASTER ROD BEARING FAILURE, CAUSING THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. OIL ANALYSIS PERFORMED AT TIME OF ANNUAL INSPECTION REVEALED NO ABNORMALITIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA04LA099](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA04LA099), Jun 20, 2004: North American T-28C (N28BZ), Deland, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to an engine master rod bearing failure for undetermined reasons, resulting in damage to the airplane during the subsequent forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
