## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE DEPARTING RUNWAY 33 AT HUTCHINSON AIRPORT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ MADE A 180 DEGREE TURN AND HEADED SOUTH AFTER TAKEOFF IN PREPARATION FOR AN EAST DEPARTURE OUT OF THE TRAFFIC PATTERN. WHILE DOING SO THE AIRMAN NOTED A RAPID DECREASE IN HIS AIRSPEED. HE DECIDED TO LEVEL OFF TO REGAIN AIRSPEED AND WHEN DOING SO LOST GROUND EFFECT AND CRASHED IN A SWAMP A QUARTER MILE FROM THE AIRPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI04CA163](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI04CA163), Jun 23, 2004: Grumman G-164A (N5339), Hutchinson, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed during the low altitude turn after takeoff. A factor to the accident was the low altitude and the swampy terrain condition.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
