## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA ^ CAME TO THE THOMASVILLE AIRPORT WITH THE INTENT TO COMPLETE HIS REQUIRED CURRENCY REQUIREMENTS. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA ^ HAD COMPLETED ONE TRAFFIC PATTERN BY EXECUTING A TOUCH AND GO. AS HE TURNED FINAL ON HIS APPROACH, HE REALIZED THAT HE WAS TOO HIGH SO HE REDUCED POWER AND ADDED AN ADDITIONAL FLAP SETTING. AS THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA ^ APPROACHED THE AIRPORT, HE FELT THAT HE WAS TOO LOW AND ADDED POWER IN AN ATTEMPT TO GO AROUND, HOWEVER, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK CORN STALKS AND A FENCE. THE AIRCRAFT THEN VEERED OFF TO THE LEFT AND STRUCK AN EMBANKMENT BEFORE COMING TO REST APPROX 200 YARDS FROM THE END AND TO THE LEFT OF RUNWAY 22.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL04CA144](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL04CA144), Jun 30, 2004: Mooney M-20E (N77ET), Thomasville, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudgment of the airspeed and distance during approach to land that resulted in an undershoot and the subsequent collision with the ground.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
