## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT ATTEMPTED LANDING R/W 09, NOTED TAILWIND CONDITION ON FINAL APPROACH. ATTEMPTED GO AROUND FROM FLARE. PILOT STATED HE WAS ALIGNED WITH NORTH EDGE OF RUNWAY BECAUSE IT IS THE SMOOTHEST PART. AS AIRCRAFT CROSSED ROAD AT EAST END OF FIELD, PILOT STATES IT JUST "QUIT FLYING." AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN NOSE-LOW IN A WHEAT FIELD, FLIPPED OVER. NO EVIDENCE OF SLIDING. PILOT AND PAX WERE UNHURT BUT TRAPPED IN AIRCRAFT UNTIL RESCUE PEOPLE TURNED IT OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI04CA168](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI04CA168), Jun 30, 2004: Peck Vans RV-4 (N43MP), Palmyra, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain proper airspeed resulting in the inadvertent stall during the go-around. The overload failure of the left main landing gear was a contributing factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
