## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 07/03/2004 AN AVID MARK IV, N3006M, OPERATED BY MICHAEL E. BURT, LANDED APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET SHORT OF A GRASS RUNWAY. THE EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT WAS OPERATING UNDER 14CFR91 AT THE TIME IN THE 38TH HOUR OF ITS 40 HOUR "PHASE I" LIMITATIONS FOR EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING FLIGHT TESTED AT MAXIMUM GROSS WEIGHT. IN THE PILOT'S ATTEMPT TO LAND AT HIS HOME FIELD, THE AIRCRAFT DEVELOPED AN EXCESSIVE SINK RATE FOR WHICH THE PILOT FAILED TO COMPENSATE. THE DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT APPEARS TO BE REPAIRABLE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
