## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) BASED UPON STATEMENTS OF TWO VERY RELIABLE EYEWITNESSES AND TECHNICAL DATA GLEANED FROM US NAVY FLIGHT HANDBOOK FOR T-28B AIRCRAFT, AIRCRAFT N5832X STALLED/CRASHED DURING ATTEMPTED LANDING. BOTH WITNESSES STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT GOT SLOW DURING THE APPROACH AS INDICATED BY A VERY NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE. JUST PRIOR TO STALL, THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT ROTATED TO AN EVEN HIGHER ANGLE OF ATTACK WITH VERY LITTLE INCREASE IN ENGINE NOISE (POWER). THE T-28 STALLED AND CONTACTED THE GROUND ON THE DEPARTURE END OF R/W 26. THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT DROPPED AND THE LEFT WING OF THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE GROUND. THE NOSE WHEEL SHEARED OFF AS THE PROPELLER CONTACTED THE GROUND. US NAVEY FLIGHT HANDBOOK FOR T-28 AIRCRAFT STATES "POWER-ON STALLS ARE RELATIVELY MILD. AT THE STALL, THE AIRPLANE CHARACTERISTICALLY ROLLS LEFT, ALTHOUGH NOT VIOLENTLY, AND, AS IN THE POWER-OFF STALLS, PITCHES NOSE-DOWN."

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX04LA259](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX04LA259), Jul 11, 2004: North American T28B (N5832X), Apple Valley, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain an adequate airspeed during the conclusion of a low pass, which led to a stall/mush.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
