## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 07-23-2004 THIS AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A GEAR UP LANDING. EXAMINATION OF THE AIRCRAFT ON 07-26-2004 REVEALED DAMAGE TO BOTH PROPELLERS AND ABRASIVE DAMAGE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT CAUSING STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE SKIN AND BULKHEADS. EXAMINATION OF THE INTERIOR OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED FIRE DAMAGE TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND PILOT'S FLOOR AREA. ON 07-28-2004 THE AIRCRAFT WAS PLACED ON JACKS AND THE LANDING GEAR WAS TESTED. THE LANDING GEAR WAS COMPLETELY CYCLED 3 TIMES WITH POSITIVE INDICATIONS OF THE GEAR BEING UP AND AGAIN IN THE DOWN POSITION. THIS WAS NOTED BY THE GEAR UP AND DOWN INDICATOR LIGHTS AND ALSO THE GEAR MECHANICL INDICATOR. EXAMINATION OF THE FIRE AREA REVEALED THE FIRE HAD NOT PENETRATED BELOW THE PILOT'S FLOOR. THE STARTER VIBRATOR WAS DISCOLORED AND CHARRED INDICATING A POSSIBLE OVER HEATED CONDITION. APPLICATION OF ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE AIRCRAFT SHOWED THAT THE STARTER VIBRATOR IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO SPARK. AFTER REMOVAL OF ELECTRICAL POWER FROM THE STARTER VIBRATOR THE REST OF THE AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS THAT WERE TESTED OPERATED NORMALLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX04LA276](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX04LA276), Jul 24, 2004: Beech 95-B55 (N88CS), Minden, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to lower the landing gear during landing approach, which resulted in his inadvertent gear up landing. A factor was his distraction due to a component malfunction.

## Other reports on N88CS (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19940512027599I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19940512027599I), May 12, 1994: Beech 95B55 (N88CS), Norman, OK, Minor damage. On examiner flight test. Indicates tire skidded 2000 feet, brakes locked on touch and go. Next landing folded gear.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
