(-23) ON 07/26/04 AT APPROXIMATELY 11:00, THE AIRCRAFT, TANKER 495, WAS DISPATCHED FROM BURNS AIRPORT TO THE TENANT FIRE, ON THE MALHEUR NATIONAL FOREST. TANKER 495 SUCCESSFULLY MADE THREE DROPS OF RETARDANT ON THE FIRE. AT APPROXIMATELY 13:20, AS THE PILOT MADE HIS DOWNHILL APPROACH, HE FELT HIS AIRSPEED WAS FAST AND THAT ALTHOUGH THE THROTTLE WAS FULLY RETARDED. HIS MANIFOLD PRESSURE WAS 12-15 INCHES AND AIRSPEED WAS 120-125 MPH DURING THE DESCENT AND DROP. AFTER DROPPING HIS LOAD, THE PILOT PUSHED THE THROTTLE CONTROL FULL FORWARD TO PULL OUT, WITH NO RESPONSE. AFTER UNSUCCESSFULLY WORKING THE THROTTLE, THE PILOT COMMUNICATED THE PROBLEM TO AIR ATTACK, AND SOUGHT A PLACE TO LAND. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON A ROUGH, SAGEBRUSH FLAT, SUSTAINING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT, INCLUDING TWO WING RIBS AND A DAMAGED AILERON.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
