## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) I WAS NOTIFIED BY ROC ABOUT 1330 PDT 8-1-04. I PROCEEDED TO WHIDBEY ISLAND AND MET THE SHERIFF NEAR LANGLEY. I SURVEYED THE DAMAGE THAT WAS COMPLETE DUE TO FIRE AND IMPACT DAMAGE. THE BODY OF MR. HAGLER WAS REMOVED BY THE TIME I ARRIVED. THERE WAS NO OBVIOUS REASON WHY THE AIRCRAFT WENT DOWN. MR. HAGLER'S MEDICAL CERTIFICATE WAS EXPIRED BY ONE YEAR. IT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS WAS HIS FIRST FLIGHT IN A YEAR TO TWO. HIS AGE OF 73 YEARS AND A POSSIBLE MEDICAL CONDITION COULD HAVE BEEN A CONTRIBUTING CAUSE BUT THAT IS SPECULATION ONLY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BURNED COMPLETELY AND WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE IF THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A MECHANICAL CONDITION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA04LA152](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA04LA152), Aug 1, 2004: Paulick Wittman W-10 (N70P), Langley, WA, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate preflight preparation to assure adequate takeoff performance to clear obstacles, and his failure to maintain obstacle clearance.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
