## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N61021, A TAYLOR CRAFT DC-65, CRASHED FOLLOWING TAKEOFF FROM PINE HOLLOW AIRSTRIP (GRASS) NEAR WAMIC, OR AT ABOUT 1700 LCL. PILOT AND OBSERVER TRANSPORTED TO LOCAL HOSPITAL @ THE DALLES, OR WITH NONLIFE THREATENING INJURIES. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO A/C. EYE WITNESS STATEMENTS INDICATE THAT PILOT DEPARTED TO THE WEST FROM ABOUT MIDFIELD AFTER TAKING ON FUEL. AS SOON AS THE A/C LIFTED OFF IT APPEARED THAT THE PILOT WAS HAVING TROUBLE KEEPING THE WINGS LEVEL AND GAINING ALTITUDE, HE MADE A SLIGHT TURN TO THE RIGHT OVER THE ROAD AND ABOVE A PASTURE AT ABOUT 50 TO 75 FEET ABOVE GROUND. THE A/C WAS IN A NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE, THE LEFT WING DROPPED AND THE A/C STALLED STRIKING THE LEFT WING FIRST, THEN NOSE OF THE A/C. WX CONDITION AT THE TIME WAS ABOUT 75 DEGREES F WITH GUSTY WINDS, CLR SKY, ABOUT 2933 DENSITY ALT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for wind conditions and his failure to maintain airspeed, resulting in a stall. The pilot's failure to use all of the available runway, and the high-gusty winds…
