## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS ENROUTE FROM LAWRENCE, KS (LWC) TO OLATHE, KS (IXD) AT AN ALTITUDE OF 2,500 FEET, WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH. THE PIC STATED THAT HE BEGAN TO SET UP FOR A FIELD AND DESCENDED TO 1,200 FEET. HE PUSHED IN THE FUEL MIXTURE AND THE ENGINE QUIT. WHILE MAKING THE EMERGENCY LANDING, THE NOSE WHEEL COLLAPSED, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN AN INVERTED POSITION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI04LA238](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI04LA238), Aug 6, 2004: American AA-1A (N9442L), Eudora, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to fuel starvation resulting from the pilot's selection of a fuel tank with an insufficient quantity remaining.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
