## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING A LANDING ON A SHORT AIRSTRIP. THE AIRPLANE LANDED SHORT, COLLIDING WITH THE EDGE OF THE AIRSTRIP AT CARPENTER CREEK, ALASKA. THE MAIN LANDING GEAR WAS TORN OFF AND THE AIRPLANE CAME TO REST ON IT'S NOSE AND BELLY-MOUNTED AUXILIARY FUEL TANK. THE AIRPLANE RECEIVED STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE AFT GUSSET OF THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR ATTACH POINT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC04LA091](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC04LA091), Aug 7, 2004: Piper PA-18 (N645RF), Palmer, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged distance/altitude during the final approach phase of landing, which resulted in an undershoot and subsequent collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
