## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) A PILOT OPERATING HIS AT 301 AIRTRACTOR UNDER PART 137 ON A PRIVATE ASPHALT AIRSTRIP CRASHED OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY JUST AFTER BECOMING AIRBORNE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CARRYING APPROXIMATELY 80 GALLONS OF FUEL AND 260 GALLONS OF CHEMICAL. THE PILOT DID NOT DUMP HIS LOAD AFTER WHAT HE SAID WAS A LOSS OF POWER WHEN THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE AND WAS THOUGHT TO BE IN GROUND EFFECT. HOWEVER THE RUNWAY SLOPES DOWNWARD NEAR THE SPOT WHERE THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE, THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT FLY AND WENT THROUGH TREES BEFORE CRASHING ON THE NORTH SIDE OF A RAVINE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED, THERE WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE, AND WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI04CA224](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI04CA224), Aug 12, 2004: Air Tractor AT-301 (N2353W), Cambridge, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot not jettisoning his chemical load during initial climb with the reported loss of airplane performance. Factors were the reported loss of aircraft performance and the tree.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
