## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 12, 2004, AT 1626 EDT, A PIPER 28RT-201, N2218Z, OPERATED BY MR. JOSEPH HOOD, DURING CRUISE FLIGHT AT 6000 FEET, EXPERIENCED AN UNCOMMANDED LANDING GEAR DEPLOYMENT. THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RETURNED TO THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT. AFTER MAKING A LOW PASS FOR THE CONTROL TOWER TO CHECK THE GEAR, MR. HOOD LANDED ON RUNWAY 25 AND WAS TOWED TO THE RAMP. FIRE AND RESCUE RESPONDED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT TECHNICIAN FOUND A FOREIGN OBJECT IN THE LANDING GEAR PITOT TUBE SYSTEM. AN OPERATIONAL CHECK WAS SATISFACTORY AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
