## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ACCORDING TO THE PILOT HE HAD NOT LANDED AT HIS PRIVATE STRIP IN 2 TO 3 MONTHS. HE FLEW OVER LANDING STRIP, HEADING EAST, TO FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH THE STRIP AND ENSURE IT WAS SAFE TO LAND. HE DID A 180 AND TURNED BACK FOR HIS APPROACH. WHEN HE TURNED TO LAND THE ENGINE QUIT, SURGED ONCE THEN QUIT AGAIN. HE THOUGHT HE COULD LAND SAFELY. AS HE APPROACHED THE LANDING STRIP THE LANDING GEAR CLIPPED A TREE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE RUNWAY. THE A/C LOST ALL MOMENTUM AND SLAMMED INTO THE FIELD, THE A/C ENDING UP IN THE CORN FIELD.
