## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AROUND 07:AM ON AUGUST 29, 2004 AN AIR TRAN AIRCRAFT N998AT WAS TAKING OFF FROM FLINT BISHOP INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (FNT). ABOUT 20 MILES EAST OF FNT THE PILOT RADIOED THE TOWER THAT HE WOULD BE RETURNING BACK TO FNT BECAUSE OF RADAR FAILURE. ONCE THE AIRCRAFT LANDED AT FNT MAINTENANCE WAS DISPATCHED TO N998AT. MAINTENANCE INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT AND DISCOVERED THAT THE NOSE RADOME HAD BEEN DAMAGED BY A BIRD STRIKE (SEA GULLS). MAINTENANCE REMOVED AND REPLACED THE NOSE RADOME SYSTEM OPS CHECK GOOD. NO FURTHER ACTION REQUIRED. BIRD STRIKE REPORT SUBMITTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
