## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE IN FLIGHT FROM FRANKLIN COUNTY STATE AIRPORT LOCATED IN HIGHGATE VT (FSO) TO UPPER CUMBERLAND REGIONAL AIRPORT IN SPARTA TN (SRB) THE AIRCRAFT HAD AN ENGINE FAILURE THAT CAUSED THE PILOT TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON A FARM IN THE TOWN OF CHAZY NY. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND IN A LARGE FIELD BUT LANDED SHORT IN A ROUGH UNCUT PASTURE. THE AIRCRAFT PROCEEDED ACROSS THE PASTURE WHERE IT HIT A CREEK BANK TEARING OFF THE LANDING GEAR AND THE IMPACT FORCED THE ENGINE INTO THE FUSELAGE. IT CONTINUED ON INTO THE NEXT PASTURE SOME 50 FEET WHERE IT CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. THE PILOT THE SOLE OCCUPANT WAS UNINJURED BUT THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC04LA201](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC04LA201), Aug 31, 2004: PZL 101 (N123LZ), Chazy, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power due to the fractured crankshaft.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
