## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON A FLIGHT FROM WATSONVILLE, CA TO WILLITS, CA THE PILOT COULD NOT FIND THE AIRPORT. HE DESCENDED TO ALLOW HIM A BETTER LOOK AND FLEW INTO THE TREES. HE DOES NOT REMEMBER ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE DESCENT. THE RUNWAY LIGHTS WERE NOT OPERATING AND A NOTAM WAS PUBLISHED. A RED OBSTRUCTION LIGHT ON THE AIRPORT TERMINAL, THE AIRPORT BEACON AND THE SIGN AT THE GAS PUMPS WERE ALL WORKING. PILOT CHECKED WEATHER BUT NOT NOTAMS.

Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
