## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) STUDENT PILOT ON A PRACTICE SOLO FLIGHT PERFORMING TAKEOFF'S AND LANDINGS TO A FULL STOP. THE FIFTH LANDING OF A SERIES RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DUE TO FIREWALL DAMAGE AND A PROP STRIKE. NOSE WHEEL TIRE BLEW AND WHEEL BROKE APART. LANDING DESCRIBED AS HARD, BUT NOT ABNORMALLY SO. NTSB OBTAINED WHEEL PIECES FOR METALLURGICAL ANALYSIS. STUDENT PILOT'S DESCRIPTION OF PROPER TRAFFIC PATTERN LANDING PROCEDURES WAS WELL ARTICULATED. STUDENT'S CFI PROVIDED GOOD LOGBOOK AND CERTIFICATE DOCUMENTATION AND INSTRUCTOR KNOWLEDGE. FAA IIC'S ARRIVAL ON SCENE WAS DELAYED BECAUSE PRELIMINARY REPORTS INDICATED MINOR DAMAGE ASSOCIATED WITH AN INCIDENT, RATHER THAN CONSTITUTING AN ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI04LA248](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI04LA248), Sep 4, 2004: Cessna 172 (N2355E), Gary, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the nose wheel for undetermined reasons. A factor associated with the accident was the student pilot's failure to properly flare the airplane.

## Other reports on N2355E (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19940306003719I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19940306003719I), Mar 6, 1994: Cessna 172N (N2355E), Millinocket, ME, Minor damage. Pilot buzzed aunts house. Struck a power line. Landed safely at nearest airport. Refueled and departed.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
