## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT STATED HE LANDED THE AIRPLANE USING HIS NORMAL TECHNIQUE--A 3-POINT, NOSE-HIGH ATTITUDE, WITH THE CONVENTIONAL/TAILWHEEL AIRCRAFT. ALTHOUGH THE AIRCRAFT INITIALLY SETTLED TO THE GROUND, IT APPARENTLY STILL HAD ENOUGH AIRSPEED TO BECOME AT LEAST PARTIALLY AIRBORNE AGAIN. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE HIGH PITCH ATTITUDE AND IMMINENT HARD LANDING USING SUBSTANTIAL POWER WITHOUT DECREASING THE ANGLE OF ATTACK, WHICH RESULTED IN AN UNCONTROLLABLE AIRCRAFT. IT APPEARS SEVERAL IMPACTS WITH THE GROUND RESULTED FROM THE APPLICATION OF MAXIMUM POWER WITH THE WING IN A STALLED CONDITION FROM WHICH A NORMAL RECOVERY WAS IMPOSSIBLE. SURFACE WINDS WERE INSIGNIFICANT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI04CA246](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI04CA246), Sep 4, 2004: Utterback Mustang II (N91622), Kendallville, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper recovery from a bounced landing and his failure to maintain aircraft control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
