## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2004, AT APPROXIMATELY 1215 CDT WHILE LANDING AT LAKE-IN-THE-HILLS, IL, THE PRIVATE PILOT IMPACTED THE RUNWAY WITH THE NOSE GEAR, CAUSING THE NOSE STRUT TO SHEAR AN ATTACH BOLT, BEND THE LOWER FIREWALL, AND DAMAGE THE THREE PROPELLER BLADES. A WITNESS STATED THE PILOT ADDED POWER, TOOK-OFF, AND ATTEMPTED A SECOND LANDING, TOOK OFF AGAIN AND MADE A THIRD LANDING TO A COMPLETE STOP OFF OF THE RUNWAY AFTER STRIKING A RUNWAY LIGHT. PILOT STATED THAT PROPELLER WAS PROBABLY DAMAGED ON SECOND OR THIRD LANDING, BECAUSE PLANE WAS BOUNCING ACROSS THE GRASS. THE PILOT THEN TAXIED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE RAMP AREA. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. NO FIRE. NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI04CA251](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI04CA251), Sep 9, 2004: Cessna 182T (N379BF), Lake In The Hil, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: the excessive descent rate resulting in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
